In cases where canceling an Amazon order before shipment isn't possible, there's only one thing customers can do: return the item and claim for a refund. The process itself is simple enough, but you should bear in mind that a number of rules apply. The first is that Amazon offers full refunds only if the item you return is unopened. Secondly, it must be returned within 30 days of delivery. This latter condition is relaxed for holiday shopping, however, when Amazon allows any unopened item bought between November 1 and December 31 to be returned by January 31.

In other words, an item can't be returned if you open it, realize that you don't particularly like or want it anymore, and decide to push for a refund. However, opened items can still be returned within 30 days if they're faulty or damaged. If they develop problems after 30 days, you'll need to contact Amazon's customer support.

Amazon Shipping & Delivery Time

You'll see an estimated shipping or delivery date for each shipment on the order summary, just before you place your order. An estimated delivery date (or date range) will also appear in Your Orders after you've placed your order.

Delivery estimates are calculated by taking the estimated shipping date and adding the transit time (the time it takes a package to travel from our facilities to your destination address), based on the shipping speed you've chosen. The transit time is calculated using business days, meaning Saturday and Sunday don't count toward the transit time (unless Amazon specifically offered a weekend delivery during checkout). Holidays are also taken into account when calculating the transit time.

How long does it take for Amazon package to arrive from China to U.S.?

The China to Amazon delivery in the United States will work by either having the package shipped through the United States Postal Service or through the FedEx, UPS, DHL.

On average when delivery is through USPS, it takes 15-20 days. For express couriers like FedEx, UPS, DHL it takes 7-14 days.

Amazon item ordered, but it hasn’t shipped yet

Don’t panic. Amazon will not charge your credit card until the order has been confirmed. Until that point, you can still cancel the order by going to Accounts and Lists > Your Account > Your Orders and selecting Cancel Order.

Undeliverable packages

Occasionally packages are returned to Amazon as undeliverable. When the carrier returns an undeliverable package to Amazon, you will be issued a full refund (including shipping charges).

Reasons for Undeliverable Packages:

  • Item is too big for a P.O. Box. Some items are too big to ship to a P.O. Box and must be shipped to a street address.

  • Unable to Access. Your package may be returned to Amazon if the carrier can't access the delivery location due to no access code, call box number, or buzzer information, and can't obtain the information after multiple attempts.
  • Refused by Recipient. If a recipient is not expecting a package, they may refuse it if they believe it was sent to them in error.
  • Failed Delivery Attempts. Most of Amazon's carriers make three attempts to deliver a package. Packages that contain more than $1300 of merchandise will always require a signature; otherwise, it is generally up to the driver's discretion to determine whether a signature is required. After three attempts, the package will be returned to Amazon.

Amazon tracking information not updating or Amazon shipping not updating tracking?

If Amazon tracking information is not available this may be due to the timing of tracking-database updates by the carrier, the sophistication of a particular carrier's tracking system, or the lack of full integration into Amazon's tracking systems.

If the estimated delivery date for your package has passed and your tracking information hasn't changed, please allow an additional day or two for the package to be delivered. Usually packages arrive on or shortly after the estimated delivery date.

Here are some reasons why tracking information may not be available:

  • The first package scan may be upon arrival at a regional hub near the destination. This is common when shipping volume is high and packages are processed in bulk. Until this first scan, the carrier may not acknowledge receipt of the package.
  • The first package scan may not be until delivery.
  • Some shipments, such as Standard International shipments, are not trackable.
  • Marketplace sellers sometimes do not provide Amazon with tracking information for their orders.

After placing an order on Amazon, you can update your shipping address at anytime prior to the actual shipment of your order -- Amazon does not allow you to update your shipping address once your order has shipped. Go to your Amazon account home page.

  • USPS: "Notice left". Amazon status: Delivery Attempted. It means a delivery attempt was made for your package.
  • UPS: "Same Day Will Call". Amazon status: Available for pickup. It means the package is available for pickup at the carrier's facility.

What does 'Delivery attempted' mean on Amazon?

Delivery attempted business closed - If the business was closed on the day the package arrived then it would be scanned Business closed. If it is scanned delivery attempted, then the package was attempted and no one was there to receive the package or there wasn’t a secure place to leave the package. At that time a notice is left for the customer to come to the post office and pick it up or to let the post office know they would like redelivery. If there hasn’t been an update, the customer hasn’t gone to the post office to pick up the package and it should still be at the post office.

Delivery attempted will try again - It means USPS will attempt redelivery, usually the next day. Then USPS will leave a notice for you to pick up the package at the post office.

Amazon no tracking number was provided by the seller

What are the reasons there are no tracking number on Amazon? Some shipments, such as Standard International shipments, are not trackable. If your purchased item is really cheap, some sellers do not use tracking until someone claims they never got the item they ordered, since tracking costs extra.

You'll see an estimated shipping or delivery date for each shipment on the order summary, just before you place your order. An estimated delivery date (or date range) will also appear in Your Orders after you've placed your order.

Delivery estimates are calculated by taking the estimated shipping date and adding the transit time (the time it takes a package to travel from our facilities to your destination address), based on the shipping speed you've chosen. The transit time is calculated using business days, meaning Saturday and Sunday don't count toward the transit time (unless Amazon specifically offered a weekend delivery during checkout). Holidays are also taken into account when calculating the transit time.

How long does it take for Amazon package to arrive from China to U.S.?

The China to Amazon delivery in the United States will work by either having the package shipped through the United States Postal Service or through the FedEx, UPS, DHL.

On average when delivery is through USPS, it takes 15-20 days. For express couriers like FedEx, UPS, DHL it takes 7-14 days.

Undeliverable packages

Occasionally packages are returned to Amazon as undeliverable. When the carrier returns an undeliverable package to Amazon, you will be issued a full refund (including shipping charges).

Reasons for Undeliverable Packages:

  • Item is too big for a P.O. Box. Some items are too big to ship to a P.O. Box and must be shipped to a street address.
  • Address Format. If a post office box address was entered in a format Amazon system does not recognize, the package may be shipped through a carrier that cannot deliver to a post office box. To ensure that such packages are routed through the proper carriers, please enter the box number as "PO BOX" followed by the number. Also, if you're a private mailbox holder (use a local commercial mail receiving agency), do not use "Box" for your mailbox number, instead use # or PMB. This will ensure that your address is not mistaken to be a P.O. Box, and that orders can ship to you via means other than the U.S. Postal Service.
  • Secure Location. Your package may be returned to Amazon if there is no safe place to leave the package at the point of delivery, where the package is safe from weather and is not visible to passersby.
  • Damaged During Transit. If a package is damaged on its way to you, the shipper may return it to us without attempting delivery.
  • Unable to Access. Your package may be returned to Amazon if the carrier can't access the delivery location due to no access code, call box number, or buzzer information, and can't obtain the information after multiple attempts.
  • Refused by Recipient. If a recipient is not expecting a package, they may refuse it if they believe it was sent to them in error.
  • Failed Delivery Attempts. Most of Amazon's carriers make three attempts to deliver a package. Packages that contain more than $1300 of merchandise will always require a signature; otherwise, it is generally up to the driver's discretion to determine whether a signature is required. After three attempts, the package will be returned to Amazon.

  • The driver is still on his way

Buyer’s remorse? Here’s how to cancel an Amazon order before it ships

It's essential to know how to cancel an Amazon order. We've all been there: shopping on Amazon when the appeal of a low price or seemingly useful product proves too much, and within minutes of ordering you’re wondering whether it was really money well spent. That’s where knowing how to cancel an Amazon order comes in handy.

You’ll need to be quick, as you can only cancel an item before it’s dispatched — otherwise you’ll need to wait for it to arrive and then attempt a return. But as our guide shows, as long as you cancel your order in time, it should be a painless process.

For orders where you’ve bought multiple items at once, you can even cancel individual products while allowing the rest to go through. And with most sellers, including Amazon itself, you should automatically get your money back in a few days.

However, it’s worth noting that process will vary among third-party sellers. Some will take additional time to process your cancellation request before accepting it, while some sellers don’t allow cancelations at all. The best practice when buying from a third-party is to either check their cancellation and returns policy or just be absolutely sure that you’ll want the item in the first place.

How to cancel an Amazon order: On the Amazon website

1. While logged into the Amazon website on your PC or Mac, click “Returns & Orders” in the top-right corner.

2. Find the order and click the “Cancel items” button next to it.

3. Make sure the items you want to cancel are marked with a blue checkmark; in an order with multiple items, you can uncheck the ones you want to keep. 

You can optionally select a cancellation reason from the drop-down menu, but either way, click “Cancel selected items in this order.”

4. If buying direct from Amazon, you should see a confirmation of the order or items being cancelled. 

If you bought from a third-party seller, it may take some time to receive confirmation, so keep checking back on the Returns & Orders page. You’ll also receive confirmation by email.

How to cancel an Amazon order: In the Amazon mobile app

1. In the Amazon Shopping app, tap the three-line symbol in the bottom-right corner.

2. Tap “Your Orders.”

3.Tap the order you want to change, then scroll down and tap “Cancel order.”

4. Make sure the items you want to cancel are checked, and optionally, select a cancellation reason. Tap “Cancel selected items.”

5. You’ll return to the Your Orders list, and see a notification saying that your cancellation was successful, or if you bought from a third-party seller, in progress. You’ll also receive an email with your cancellation status.

How to Change the Shipping Address on an Order by Amazon

After placing an order on Amazon, you can update your shipping address at anytime prior to the actual shipment of your order -- Amazon does not allow you to update your shipping address once your order has shipped.   3. Find the order you wish to return (or replace) and click Return or replace items.

The process itself is simple enough, but you should bear in mind that a number of rules apply. You'll see an estimated shipping or delivery date for each shipment on the order summary, just before you place your order. An estimated delivery date (or date range) will also appear in Your Orders after you've placed your order.

  • Failed Delivery Attempts. Most of Amazon's carriers make three attempts to deliver a package. Packages that contain more than $1300 of merchandise will always require a signature; otherwise, it is generally up to the driver's discretion to determine whether a signature is required. After three attempts, the package will be returned to Amazon.

This will show you a list of all the things you’ve ordered in the past three months. Scroll through the list until you find the order that you want to hide and click “View Order Details.” If you don’t see it, use the search bar to find it.

For the item that you want to hide, click “Archive Order.”

Then, click “Archive Order” again. Everything you ordered at the same time will also be archived.

Now, when someone looks at the list of your orders, it won’t appear. It is still accessible, however, in the order archive.

You can access it on Amazon’s Archived Orders page. To find it on Amazon’s website, go to Accounts & Lists > Account. Click the “Archived Orders” button found on the Your Account page.

Set up Amazon Household Instead

Archiving orders to a little-known section of the user interface isn’t a great solution, to be honest. Sure, it works, but someone who’s curious could still easily find the order details. Instead, if you have Amazon Prime, there’s a much better solution: Amazon Household.

Amazon Household lets you share your Prime benefits and digital content with another adult and up to four teens and children. This means that both you and your partner can have your own Amazon accounts, order each other whatever secret gifts you like, and get the same free delivery options—without paying for a second Prime account. No more account-sharing is needed.

It also means that you can set your teenage kids up with their own Amazon accounts so that they can order things with your approval, but they won’t be able to pry through your order list to see what they’re getting for Christmas.

  1. I had a quick look. Those fees are really high compared to established money transfer services, the service is still in beta (they are planning to roll out the full service in 2019) and the limits are really low (500$/250 Euros). I don't think this is meant to compete with money transfer services. It may have some advantages if you need to send small amounts to friends/family without needing their bank details.
